I graduated from Troy University with a BA in Collaborative Education K-6 in 2014. While in college I interned at Pike County Elementary and truly enjoyed the experience and worked with students with a diverse exceptionality. My first year of teaching was at Ashford Elementary where I taught students with amazing personalities that made me a better person and teacher. Now I am here at GCES where I feel this is where my heart and home is.

When I graduated from Troy, I started my career with the Houston County School System in 2014 at their wonderful school in Ashford Alabama as a K-2 special education teacher for Ashford Elementary. I finished my first year of teaching with thier school system and was welcomed back for a second year. At the end of that year, I felt I needed a challenge. I wanted to experience a different atmosphere and a different school setting so that I could better provide for my students, as well as myself. I left Ashford to bring myself to Geneva County Schools. I came here in hopes that I can further my endeavors as a special education teacher, and learn from each of my students so that I may become an even better teacher. With this being my third year here at GCES I am calling this place home. Getting to know everyone and everything has been a great experience.

Hello to the community of Geneva County Schools System. My name is Erika Free. I am from Kinston, Alabama home of the Bulldogs born and raised. This is my fourth year teaching and my third year here at GCES. I am a mother of two young adults. One of my children had a learning disability while growing up and if it wasn't for a great special education teacher he would not have been as successful as he become. This inspired me to become a special education teacher so that I might make a difference in another child's life. I also love to paint and I like creating different types of crafts (people say I am so crafty), especially if owls are a part of it. Owls are so smart! Don't you think? I have two dogs, a great dane and mini pekadauch. I love animals. I could rescue them all.  I have made great strides here with my experience and education with my past classroom, that I feel I can be what your child needs this year. I look forward to teaching and guiding your child and I will love them and protect them as my own. I am here for all students and families. I am available to conference from 8-8:30 in the mornings. It's a Great Day To Still Be A Bulldog!
